born in Karachi, Pakistan on December 9, 1958 –have two older sisters and one younger brother and sister –worked as a stenographer and typist between 1977 and1988 –received my Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983 –married for the first time in April, 1988 –my ex-husband sponsored me to come to Calgary, Alberta in December of 1988 –i took esthetics courses in Karachi before coming to Calgary –began employment as an esthetician in 1989 –after separation from husband in 1990, i went through a lot of ups and downs because i was the only one from my family, i had no friends, no moral support, and i didn’t even know what help was available for single immigrant women from the Canadian system i did not speak good English at that time but i believed in god. –coming from a large family and a large group of friends; it made it very difficult to live alone and find out my own way to continue with my life. I began picking myself back up and began working part-time at McDonald’s and immigration society. I took some courses to improve my English and took a secretarial course at s.a.i.t. i also took a medical secretarial course.
