–born in Karachi, Pakistan on December 9, 1958
–have two older sisters and one younger brother and sister
–worked as a stenographer and typist between 1977 and1988
–received my Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983
–married for the first time in April, 1988
–my ex-husband sponsored me to come to Calgary, Alberta in December of 1988
–i took esthetics courses in Karachi before coming to Calgary
–began employment as an esthetician in 1989
–after separation from husband in 1990, i went through a lot of ups and downs because i was the only one from my family, i had no friends, no moral support, and i didn’t even know what help was available for single immigrant women from the Canadian system i did not speak good English at that time but i believed in god.
–coming from a large family and a large group of friends; it made it very difficult to live alone and find out my own way to continue with my life. I began picking myself back up and began working part-time at McDonald’s and immigration society. I took some courses to improve my English and took a secretarial course at s.a.i.t. i also took a medical secretarial course.
became the first home-based designated esthetics school in Alberta (students are able to get funding from the provincial and federal governments)
–i was unable to find a job in any field because i did not have any references. I also started doing some waxing from my residence.
–in 1990, rented a room in a hair salon at 1st street and 8 Avenue S.W. with no base clientele and i paid $900 per month plus my own expenses.
–took nail courses at the European beauty school in 1993
–purchased l’mirage esthetics salon in 1994 and changed the name to
Ambber hair and esthetics salon.
–began training students in esthetics in 1995
–began training students on a one-to-one basis to improve esthetics services for the clients.
–trained several students in 13 years and 98% of the students are either self-employed or are working in a salon.
–took permanent makeup course in Toronto in 2001.
–married jack Relkow in October of 2003.
–name of salon has been changed to: Ambber prof. Esthetics salon and training centre
